It has been announced that WalkFest, the popular Ulverston walking festival, will go ahead in September this year. The festival, which usually runs in May, will instead will be held from 11 – 19 September, 2021.
You can read details about the new dates in a statement from the festival below:
‘The 2021 Festival will be held from Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th September.
Changes from the normal festival are:
- Walks will be free.
- There will be fewer walks allowing smaller groups, with our usual walk leaders.
- A printed programme will not be produced, to allow for the any changes in Coronavirus guidance.
- Car sharing will not be arranged.
- Walkers will be invited to book in for a walk by emailing ulverstonwalks@gmail.com. However, late changes will be acceptable and the aim is to estimate the size of groups to allow for an appropriate number of leaders.
COVID-19 Measures – Any measures to try and mitigate the transmission of the virus will be added under the WALK NOTES tab on our website at the time of the festival, based on current Government guidance and common sense.
The organisation of the team has also changed. We welcome John Wealthall, a long-standing walk leader, as our Chairman, overseeing a number of other members of the team of walk leaders in putting together future programmes in a similar way to before but with no committee as such. Contact details are given under the About Us page.
*2022 – We look forward to a return to the traditional and full festival, in its 22nd year, currently planned for Saturday 23rd April to Monday 2nd May 2022.’
