Lantern making kits are now available from shops in Ulverston for this year’s festival, including from Appleseeds, Costa Coffee, Laurel and Hardy Museum, The Book Shack in the Market Hall, Coronation Hall and 14 Moor Garth in Swarthmoor.
This year’s festival takes place on Saturday 16th September and the theme is Outer Space. The event features several spectacular lantern processions through Ulverston’s streets, converging to form one large procession meeting in the town centre.
New for 2017 is the Lantern Festival Street Party in Ulverston town centre in place of the traditional finale at Ford Park. Expect a community carnival atmosphere at the event, with street entertainment, food and drink stalls, bands, circus performances, fire acts and lantern creations on display for everyone to see.
The Lantern Festival is a community event and relies on local people’s support to help make it a success. There are a number of ways in which you can help support the festival, including by donating, volunteering as a steward, helping out at lantern making evenings, or by simply attending this year’s event. So pick up a lantern kit, attend a lantern making evening and join in!
You can also contribute to this year’s crowd fund, which aims to raise £2000 for the festival, which will help to pay for insurance, license fees and emergency first aid.
