Britain In Bloom Judges Ulverston BID

The Britain in Bloom judges arrived in Ulverston on Wednesday 14th August to Judge the Ulverston BID and their contribution to the greening of Ulverston. Jan Hancock, Chair of the BID and Justin Tootill-Wales, Project Officer were thrilled to introduce Ulverston to the two Judges.

The Judging started at 9am with a whirlwind tour of Ulverston covering the New Eco Watering System being trialled around the Council office, a visit to the Biodiversity project at Croftlands, with Ulverston in Bloom, followed by stop at Marsh House to admire the progress of their new raised planting areas, finally finishing with a look at the new AR Through the Seasons Trail in Jubilee Gardens.

Attention then focused on the Town Centre to see the seasonal and annual planting flourishing in hanging baskets and planters. The judges were also shown the Celebration Trail displayed in shop windows commemorating 60 years of the RHS, enroute to Gill Banks where the Gill Banks Working Group explained their valuable work on the banking and hedgerows along this popular path. A short walk from there took us to The Pound which has been transformed by the Ulverston & District Civic Society into a tranquil oasis. We finishing the Tour with a trip up Hoad Hill to see the breathtaking view from the Sir John Barrow Monument, courtesy of the Town Council. The judges were amazed at the scale of the area that Ulverston BID covers and their work with the different groups in the Town that they met along the way.

Ulverston was the last of the BID category for the UK in the 2024 Britain in Bloom following In judging following Exeter, London Bridge & Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.

The BID will know the results of the Judging at the Annual Awards in Manchester on October 21st 2024.
