A beautiful sandstone building overlooking County Square. Once a place of numbers and accounts, now adorned with greenery and style. Proudly standing out from the crowd of surrounding buildings… welcome to County Square Studios.
Born from the musings of proprietors Jenny Spedding and Jo Greenfield, who were both searching for a suitable workplace to divide their home and work lives, County Square Studios is even more beautiful inside and offers far more than they originally planned or hoped for.
The pair, who have worked creatively together for some time, took on the building in February 2022 and spent a lot of time, sweat and tears completely renovating this amazing space, restoring period features and finding creative and clever ways to utilise original pieces that were left behind.
As much as Jenny and Jo were searching for their own workspace, they also wanted to find a place that allowed for other creatives to come together with them, sharing ideas and skills. They hadn’t banked on finding a space so wonderfully perfect to not only create a studio space that can be used for such gatherings and also hired for private workshops – check out ‘The Square’, County Square Studios has also provided permanent workspaces for another three creative businesses.
When speaking to Jenny about filling those additional spaces she said it was all down to word of mouth and a post in an Etsy Made in Cumbria group, and it has been so well received as a creative sharing space, that there’s now a waiting list of others who would love to be part of the County Square Studios’ family.
So what comes next?
County Square Studios only opened their doors in June, but they’re not slowing down! They’re excited to be networking with other local businesses, expanding their offers into local shops and opening their own gift shop.
Jenny describes the tone of County Square Studios as a place ‘that wants to encourage creativity,’ and they plan to start hosting workshops in the very near future – follow their Facebook page to see updates!
