Ulverston BID Seeks New Board Members

Ulverston Business Improvement District is seeking local business people to join the board and help spend the £100,000 raised annually from the BID levy for the benefit of the town.






A public meeting will be held on Thursday 19th of October at 6.30pm at the Coronation Hall, where Ulverston businesses will be given the chance to elect or re-elect members to the BID management board.

One third of the board is up for election or re-election this year. As BID Chair Chris Nelson explains “The constitution of the BID states that one third of the board must be re-elected or change after two years, as a way of refreshing the board and giving new people a chance to join. The board has done a fantastic job and worked diligently to ensure that the money raised from local businesses is spent wisely, but we don’t have a monopoly on good ideas. The BID board needs people who are prepared to work for the benefit of Ulverston, and work with groups and organisations to make things happen.”

The vote will be for five business categories in Ulverston: large business, small business, retail, hospitality and charities & schools, with three places on the board for each category. There are currently vacancies for new board members to represent large business, retail and charities & schools. One of the three representatives from hospitality will be standing for re-election, along with BID Chair Chris Nelson who is one of the small business board members.

Ballot papers will be issued to BID levy payers who attend the meeting – business owners are asked to bring a BID levy demand as proof of eligibility to vote.










The meeting will be open to all members of the public, giving them the opportunity to learn more about the work of Ulverston BID; ask questions about the board’s work and put ideas across on how to make improvements to the town. Chris Nelson says “The public meeting on October 19th is Ulverston’s chance to question the board directly, and give us new ideas about making Ulverston better.” While members of the public are invited to attend the meeting, only BID levy payers will be eligible to vote or stand for election to the board.

The deadline for nominations to the board has been extended to Monday 16th of October. To make a nomination, the nominee’s name, business address, contact telephone or email must be emailed to BID Chair Chris Nelson at chris@trafalgar-pr.co.uk or admin@ulverstonbid.org.uk. Alternatively, you can call Chris on 07761 930627. Only BID levy payers can sit on the board, or vote to elect board members.
